Stranger No More

Stranger No More

If I am me enough they’ll
figure out the get-up’s phony
They’ll see through secondhand
hats and ties a fraying stigma

The dread that drags and catches
Back it down, might reconcile
But a futile effort splits illusions
Here and now: the odd one

So I won’t stay
No I can’t stay

You’ve seen enough of me
Your glaring eyes shout discomfort
No ragged hats and ties
could duly keep your screams muffled

My awkward being can be seen
Despite a try to cover
No cane to stand can keep me standing
So I’ll have to walk off

So I won’t stay
No I can’t stay
I don’t want to be

The stranger

I don’t want to be the stranger, no more

So I won’t stay
No I can’t stay

If you’re offended I didn’t mean to
I had no idea, I didn’t know
Social norms are to me
oh so foreign, I don’t belong

I'm feeling foolish just to be me
Apologies for being
How strange I am, it's who I am
it's who I am, I'm sorry

So I won’t stay
No I can’t stay

So I won’t stay
No I can’t stay
I don’t want to be

The stranger

I don’t want to be the stranger, no more
