Tone Little Big

With a fondness for the tone settings in the little amp—from which I've written all these electric guitar songs thus far—I got nearer tonight to finding that same tone on the big amp, turning dials and all sorts, hearing, and turning again. (It's that ringy bit off of that one song that needs to be a smidge closer.)

The Music Is

Realized something this afternoon.

That the music is what the music is because it's independent of everything else in this world.

What is the music?

It's good to me.

And it doesn't rely on others for me to be embraced by that goodness, that uplift, that joy.

It can't be offered then taken away.

It can't be shackled.

Trampled upon.

Available only at certain times on someone else's schedule.

The music is mine and mine alone.

I created it. I inhabit it. And I can live when I want to live. It's more me than I am myself, exemplified.

And it's oh so good to me.

Despite everything else in the world, the music is what the music is.

The B Gone Passed

Dear B String on my electric guitar,
Thank you for your help carrying me on a journey through 11 songs found and written with you strong and sturdy for the many months you shined, and although you snapped at the bridge while I tuned you this morning with the sound of  your tension oh sweet mercifully relieved, I will best remember your fine contributions in each and every chuck of those songs.

                                                       Graciously,
                                                                Leonard

Milk & Bananas

Somebody walked out of Costco with 2 jugs of milk and a hand of bananas. That's all.

Milk and bananas.

Let the party begin.

The Street Sign

Walked out earlier this afternoon while baby brother was working on the car, looked out to the south of the yard and found a new green street sign strapped around the streetlight post. Wait. What?! Looked to the original location of the street sign on a dedicated pole at the east end of the yard and the original black sign was gone, with just the pole standing, dead without its head on, a ghost.

A shock.

A disappointment.

It's been there all my life and now no more. Had I known the city was to replace it I would have asked the workers to hand it over to put it on my bedroom wall. They're just gonna trash the sign anyways.

It was there yesterday.

And that green is garish.

Station 8

Scissors. Glue. String. Construction paper. At catechism class my niece put together this sweet, sweet book about
The Stations of the Cross.

Yo, Station 8 is where it's at.

Because Jesus is so pimp. ðŸ˜Ž✝️

Domestic Dali Violence

On Episode 7 of the Korean drama Liver or Die I glanced back at the TV and saw a woman on a household floor freshly slapped by a man, and most peculiar was this woman seemingly had a moustache and goatee applied via marker now smooshed by this man's attack. Seemingly, I say, because I just half-watch most of these shows since it's the channel with the best reception, KEMS (a station that rebroadcasts Korea's KBS TV programming). Also, the foreign language doesn't interfere with my thought process since I don't understand Korean and can still have someone nice chatting in the background.

So...smooshed.

Yeah, smooshed. Right after seeing that poorly moustachioed woman post-hit I thought what if all domestic violence required first that you apply facial hair on each other with a felt tip pen AND THEN you get to slapping? The first goal naturally being making each strategic strike count by deftly smudging the ink across their face.

AND if you can get past the laughs first.

So how about you just not hit each other at all and not look silly with that goofy Fu Manchu or Dali?

Hmmm???

What Everest Eyes

Took a shower
Washed my head
With winter's water
Washed my head

And oh!
How that oh so cold water
raced down
Everest down
like the frostbitten who fought
now the fight of
what might be
frostbite around my eyes

And I feel
my eyeballs
are freezing

But these aching eyes
know not the top of world
just the cold of everything else beneath it
